Agbonlahor issues 'definite' verdict on Leicester City sacking Brendan Rodgers after source's board reveal

The pressure should be off Brendan Rodgers’ job at Leicester City, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England attacker claimed Rodgers’ job should be safe because the players are playing for him.

Performances have improved in recent weeks but the Foxes are still in the relegation zone after their 1-0 defeat to Man City at the King Power Stadium on Saturday (29 October).

Sources told Football Insider the same day that the 49-year-old’s future is still up in the air and the club could make a change during the World Cup break in November.

The relationship between the manager and board are understood to be tense and have been for the majority of the calendar year.

“I think the players are playing for him so I think the pressure is off, definitely,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“They need to start picking up results as well, Leicester. As much as they have been playing better, they are still near the bottom. There is a lot to play for.

“During the World Cup, a lot of managers have got to get up to speed. Yes, give them a little break but a lot of managers will want them flying out the blocks on Boxing Day.

“It’s going to be a busy December for the players to get their fitness up.”

Leicester are next in action on Saturday (5 November) when they travel to Goodison Park to face Everton.

A win could see them climb out of the relegation places.
