Agbonlahor issues emphatic Smith Rowe claim as Arsenal image emerges

Emile Smith Rowe has been “outstanding” for Arsenal this season and fully deserves his maiden England call up, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England attacker insisted Smith Rowe is getting better with every game for Arsenal.

The attacker has scored three goals in his last three Premier League games and was called up to Gareth Southgate’s squad after Marcus Rashford and James Ward-Prowse withdrew.

The Arsenal man has subsequently been pictured in training with the Three Lions as they prepare for their World Cup qualifiers against Albania and San Marino.

England need four points from the two games to qualify for next year’s World Cup in Qatar.

Asked whether the 21-year-old deserves his place in the squad, Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “I think he does.

“He really deserves it, he’s been outstanding for Arsenal. He’s grown on me, every game he plays he’s getting better.

“He’s running with the ball and he’s getting into the box to score goals. When your form is like that, you deserve an England call up.

“There’s a lot of competition for places in that position and when you see a youngster coming through it puts a lot of pressure on the players that are ahead of him.

“It’s fully deserved for Smith Rowe.”

Five of Smith Rowe’s 12 goals for Arsenal’s senior side have come in 13 appearances across all competitions this term.

He has represented England for all age groups and scored his first Under-21 goal in his fourth appearance last month.
