Agbonlahor issues 'honest' verdict on Tottenham agreeing Harry Kane deal after twist

Harry Kane will not decide on signing a new contract at Tottenham until midway through the 2022-23 season, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England attacker claimed Spurs may have to be in all three cup competitions as well as the top three to convince Kane to commit his future to his boyhood club.

The 29-year-old’s current deal has less than two years left to run.

As quoted by football.london last week, Antonio Conte revealed he expects the club to offer the England captain a new contract.

It is claimed Kane would be open to negotiations over an extension.

The manager’s own deal expires in less than 12 months and he insisted the length of his deal is irrelevant as he plans to be at Tottenham for years to come.

“I don’t think he [Kane] will be in a rush,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“I think he’ll wait until midway through the season, wait and see how the season is going.

“If they’re in the knockout stages of the Champions League, in the top-three, if they are still in the EFL Cup and FA Cup he might look at it and think ‘This club is going in the right direction, I will commit my future’.

“He’ll be in no rush to do that, to be honest.”

Kane only needs to score 19 goals to go past Jimmy Greaves and become Spurs’ all-time top goalscorer.

He needs 78 more in the Premier League to break Alan Shearer’s record of 260.
