Agbonlahor issues Newcastle ultimatum after Howe's pre-Brentford promise

Brentford’s trip to St. James’ Park today is a must-win game for Eddie Howe and Newcastle United, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England attacker insisted a new manager boost, home advantage and Brentford’s form mean it is the “perfect” opportunity for Newcastle to put on a performance.

The Magpies are the only team yet to win in the Premier League this season.

After a strong start to the season, Brentford have lost their last four top-flight games.

As quoted by the Guardian at his unveiling last week, Howe promised to bring entertaining football to Newcastle.

But Agbonlahor has suggested he needs to focus on results first and foremost.

He told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “Newcastle have to win, they haven’t got a choice.

“This is a game they need to win. In their next three games, they need a minimum of four points. I would say they should get six points, but they need a minimum of four.

“Two of their next three games are against teams are also fighting to stay up, so they need to win these sorts of games.

“If you can’t beat Brentford at home, what game are you going to win at home?

“Brentford are going through some bad form, you’ve got a new manager with the home crowd. This is the perfect chance to put on a performance.

“These are the games where Newcastle have to get points. In the Premier League, nothing can be guaranteed.”

A win on Saturday would still leave Newcastle in the relegation zone but they could be just two points from safety.

After Brentford, they face Arsenal and bottom side Norwich City before the end of the month.
