Agbonlahor: Man City 'lucky' after 'major' John Stones footage emerges
John Stones’ injury is a “major blow” for Man City but they will be able to cope in his absence, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England attacker insisted City have been “lucky” with injuries this season.
The 28-year-old has started Man City’s last five Premier League games but suffered an injury while on international duty this week.
He was withdrawn after 37 minutes of England’s 3-3 draw with Germany on Monday (26 September) with a hamstring injury.
Gareth Southgate told Channel 4 after the game that he was unsure of the extent of Stones’ injury.
As shown on Sky Sports on Thursday (29 September), the centre-back was not training ahead of Man City’s game with Man United on Sunday (2 October).
It looks increasingly unlikely that he will be able to feature in the Manchester derby at the Etihad.
“It’s a major blow,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.
“This is why you build squads. Man City have been quite lucky with injuries. Other teams are always losing important players.
“They’ve got so many options, Man City, in that defence. I don’t think it’s going to be a problem.
“There was a time recently where Stones wasn’t starting anyway so Man City will be fine without him.”
Stones started just 12 Premier League games last season with Ruben Dias and Aymeric Laporte the centre-back pairing preferred by Pep Guardiola.
Guardiola’s side are currently second in the Premier League but could go top with a win over Man United.
