Agbonlahor: Newcastle United told to U-turn on Miguel Almiron after source's '£60m' deal reveal

Newcastle United do not need to give Miguel Almiron a new contract until next summer at the earliest, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England attacker claimed Bruno Guimaraes is the only player Newcastle need to tie down to a new deal.

Sources told Football Insider earlier this week (31 October) that the club are confident of agreeing a new contract with Guimaraes worth £60million over five years.

The Telegraph reported last month (27 October) that they are also set to open talks with Almiron who is out of contract at the end of next season.

As quoted by Newcastle World (28 October), Eddie Howe insisted they had no opened negotiations with the 28-year-old.

“Newcastle are going places, Newcastle don’t have to be scared about giving anybody a contract apart from Guimaraes,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“He’s the standout player, he’s young and got everything that a top team in Europe will want.

“Almiron is in very good form but sometimes you can give contracts too quickly.

“What if he goes back to the Almiron from previous seasons who couldn’t score and was frustrating? That could easily happen, this could just be a purple patch.

“Newcastle will look at it and think ‘We’re in no rush, we’ll see how he does for the whole season and then maybe there’s a discussion to be had in the summer’.

“They are in a good position Newcastle, there is no rush to give him a new contract.”

Almiron has scored seven Premier League goals this season, including six in his last six games.

The Paraguay international had found the net just nine times in 110 top-flight appearances before this season.

In other news, an insider has revealed a Newcastle United overhaul is underway as a new deal is agreed.
