Agbonlahor shares 'big' Aston Villa training ground reveal after 'speaking to Gerrard'

Gabby Agbonlahor has claimed Steven Gerrard will be “hands-on” in Aston Villa training.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Villa’s record Premier League goalscorer revealed he had spoken to Gerrard who is “ready to give it his all”.

The 41-year-old took his first training session at his new club on Monday (November 15) after moving from Rangers last week.

He is preparing his squad for the visit of Brighton & Hove Albion at the weekend.

“From when I trained with him at England he was always the one that demanded the most out of the players,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“He’s going to demand the most out of these Villa players. You’ll see a big change in the way the players are getting to the ball, the way players are tracking back.

“He’ll expect his whole team to press together and at the right time.

“I’m just excited by it. I thought it was harsh on Dean Smith but football moves on. If anyone was perfect for the job, it’s Steven Gerrard.

“He’ll be hands-on in training, I heard. He just demands a lot on the training ground.

“Also, he was a player not so long ago so he’s going to have the right balance of having fun. He’s going to want to work hard with the players but he’s going to want to have a little bit of fun and not be so strict.

“Around the training ground he’ll have standards but he’ll have the right balance. He’ll be in touch with the new era of players.

“It’s the perfect manager and I’m jealous I’m not a player under Gerrard. Watching Rangers and the connection he had with the fans, the passion he showed after each game, pumping his arms up. It’s exciting times.

“I’m looking forward to it and I managed to have a quick chat with Gerrard. He said he was going to give it his all, he’s all in and he’s really excited to be at Aston Villa.”

In other news, Smith is plotting to lure an Aston Villa loanee to Norwich City in January.
