Agbonlahor shares two-word verdict on Arsenal signing Aurier after Tottenham agreement

There is “no chance” Arsenal will sign Serge Aurier after he quit Tottenham, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England attacker claimed Arsenal would be “asking for trouble” if they signed Aurier after he flopped at their bitter rivals.

The right-back, 28, mutually agreed to terminate his Spurs contract on deadline day as the club could not find a buyer.

Tottenham brought in Emerson Royal for a £25.7million fee from Barcelona on deadline day.

If Aurier had stayed at the club he would have been the fourth choice right-back behind Royal, Japhet Tanganga and Matt Doherty.

Sky Sports reported on September 2 he was open to a move to Arsenal.

Asked whether the Gunners could take up the option to sign the Ivory Coast international this month, Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “No chance.

The pundit added: “He didn’t do the job at Spurs, so you’re just asking for trouble if you bring in someone like that from your local rivals. It shows you’re not as good as them.

“There’s no chance he is going to Arsenal.

“Maybe he could go abroad somewhere, he’s getting a bit older now and his legs are nowhere near as good as they were at Paris Saint-Germain.

“Turkey, maybe, somewhere like that. America or the Middle East could be an option. For sure, he’s certainly still got a lot to offer.”

Aurier played 110 times across all competitions for Spurs, including 77 Premier League appearances.

He chipped in with eight goals and 17 assists in his four-year spell at the club.

In other news, Arsenal made a move to re-sign a 25-year-old and a five-year deal was offered.
