Agbonlahor shares verdict on Liverpool signing Tielemans after twist today

Gabby Agbonlahor has claimed Youri Tielemans would be the perfect replacement for Gini Wijnaldum at Liverpool.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England forward admitted he did not see Leicester City letting the Belgium international go even if he tries to force through a move.

Belgian outlet Het Nieuwsblad reported on May 26 that Tielemans was on Jurgen Klopp’s shortlist of potential Wijnaldium replacements.

However, as quoted by the Mirror today (June 12) Tielemans appeared to hint he is ready to sign a new Leicester contract.

The midfielder suggested the Foxes are well placed to win trophies after winning this season’s FA Cup.

The 24-year-old scored the winning goal at Wembley with a stunning long-range strike that meant Leicester lifted the trophy for the first time in their history.

Asked whether he could make the step up to replace Wijnaldum, Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “He’s definitely good enough.

“He’s a great player and Liverpool definitely need to replace Wijnaldum. I thought they needed another midfielder even if Wijnaldum had stayed.

“It’s definitely something Liverpool need to get over the line.

“I just don’t see Leicester letting him go though, even if the player wanted to go. I don’t see Leicester letting any of their better players go.”

Tielemans under his contract at the King Power Stadium until at least the summer of 2023.

He has played 108 times for Brendan Rodgers’ side across all competitions since signing from Monaco, initially on loan, in January 2019.
