Agbonlahor shares verdict on Ramsdale signing for Arsenal after Athletic reveal

Gabby Agbonlahor has claimed Aaron Ramsdale would not displace Bernd Leno if he completes a potential move to Arsenal.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England forward insisted the German is very talented despite having occasional off days.

The Athletic reported on 28 June Arsenal have made initial contact with Sheffield United over a deal for the goalkeeper.

The Gunners are in the market for competition for Leno after selling Emiliano Martinez to Villa.

Iceland international Alex Runarsson joined last summer but failed to take his chance and Mat Ryan arrived on loan in January.

Football Insider learned on 15 June Celtic are hoping to beat Arsenal to the permanent signing of the Australia international.

While Ramsdale would be more expensive than Ryan, he qualifies as a homegrown player.

Nobody has made more saves than him in the Premier League over the last two seasons.

However, his efforts were not enough to prevent Sheffield United from suffering relegation back to the Championship.

“I think he is a good goalkeeper,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“But Leno, on his day, he can be a very good goalkeeper. He has his off days but on his day he is very talented.

“I still think he’ll be the one that plays.”

Ramsdale moved back to Sheffield United last summer for £18.5million after AFC Bournemouth were relegated.

Despite being a part of back-to-back relegations, the 23-year-old’s performances earned him a call up to England’s European Championship squad after Dean Henderson picked up a shoulder injury.
