Agbonlahor: 'Very dangerous' development could have big repercussions for Rangers and Celtic

Rangers are well placed to win the Scottish Premiership and launch an era of dominance over Celtic, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England forward delivered his verdict after the first round of the Scottish Premiership fixtures.

Reigning champions Rangers got off to the best possible start with a comfortable 3-0 win over Livingston at Ibrox.

Meanwhile, Celtic lost 2-1 to newly-promoted Hearts at Tynecastle after a last-minute John Souttar winner.

Asked if the title race was already over, Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “If you’re a betting man, you’re betting on Rangers.

“They look like a squad and a club firmly secured. You know what you’re going to get from the players.

“Celtic look like a bit of a shambles. The manager has come in, not brought many players, they’re out of the Champions League against a club they should be beating.

“They’ve lost to Hearts, who have just been promoted. That’s now what Celtic have been about. The Celtic that I have been used to since I was a kid are a club that is in a good place, a club that looks firmly secure and being run right.

“At the moment, they are in a very dangerous place. If they lose their next league game you start to think ‘You know what, the league is going to run away from them again’.

“Celtic fans won’t have it. They’re not used to it. They’ll accept one season of losing the league and then they will be wanting to get back to what they are used to which is winning the league.

“There’s a big danger of Rangers now being the dominant force in Scottish football. They’ve got a great manager and a hungry set of players.

“Just look at their first goal against Livingston, they had so many players in the box looking to score. They’re just so hungry.”

In other news, Celtic are set to hit “rock bottom” as a “risky” Odsonne Edouard replacement is mooted.
