Agbonlahor: Wolves backed to sign Daniel Podence replacement after confirmed transfer news

Wolves need to sign a striker and upgrade on Daniel Podence in the January transfer window, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England attacker insisted Wolves need to add goals to their team and Podence is not good enough.

The Premier League’s bottom club are also the division’s lowest scorers after scoring just eight goals in their opening 15 games of the season.

As quoted by the Telegraph earlier this week (14 November), new manager Julen Lopetegui revealed the club’s owners are worried about relegation and will try and improve the side in January.

Wolves spent over £100million in the summer but Raul Jimenez and £15.1million signing Sasa Kalajdzic have been out with injuries while Diego Costa has struggled.

“They have to spend money,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“They are bottom of the league and we’re more than a third of the way through, 15 games, this is not the time to mess around.

“They know that this Premier League is tough and if you don’t invest properly, you will go down.

“They need a striker as soon as possible, you cannot rely on Diego Costa. They need goals in their team.

“You look at some players who aren’t getting goals and they’ve got to come out. Look at Podence, players like that don’t do anything.”

Podence has two of Wolves’ eight Premier League goals this season while Raul Jimenez has four.

The Molineux outfit return to top-flight action on Boxing Day when they travel to fellow strugglers Everton.

In other news, an ex-Fifa official has lambasted the PGMOL after a landmark Wolves development as a “fine and suspension” should have been issued.
