Football agent Mamadi Fofana has hailed the role of Brendan Rodgers in bringing Moussa Dembele to Celtic last summer.

Fofana, who represents the 20-year-old, revealed that the Celtic chief had used former Liverpool stars Luis Suarez and Raheem Sterling to help convince him to move to Parkhead.

Speaking to the Daily Record, Fofana revealed the extent to which Rodgers went to ensure Dembele became a Celtic player ahead of the current season, where has he since made a ground-breaking impact.

He said: “What he promised Moussa was that he’d have fun, he’d get his chances to play and he’d be at a top club with everything put in place for him to become a better player, so long as you are willing to work.

“He [Rodgers] said ‘If you don’t believe me, take my phone, call Luis Suarez and ask him what he thinks about me, call Raheem Sterling. I’ve developed many players and you can be one of those, but it’s up to you.

“You will get money in your life, but right now, you are young enough to work and learn and then the big money will follow.’

“That was roughly the speech and the fact it was coming from a world-class manager was a turning point for Moussa. He was convinced.”

That revelation will be inspiring for Celtic fans who can expect Rodgers to snap up more world-class signings in the future.

Dembele was one of the hottest properties on the market in the summer, with a host of clubs looking to snap him up on a free transfer after his contract with Fulham expired.

But, since choosing a move to Scotland, the France U21 international has been a revelation. Dembele has netted seven goals in his last three appearances – including back-to-back hat-tricks – taking his season haul up to 27 goals and six assists from 41 appearances.

His scintillating form continues to draw the plaudits, and he has attracted interest from some of Europe’s elite clubs – including the likes of Chelsea, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich.

Dembele is also reportedly set to make his mark on the international stage, with France manager Didier Deschamps looking to involve him in the senior squad for their March double-header against Luxembourg and Spain.

In other Celtic news, Motherwell manager Mark McGhee believes no opponent can live with this 25-year-old Celtic ace.
