Arsenal are considering a summer move for Stuttgart midfield sensation Berkay Ozcan, according to the player’s agent.
The 19-year-old has lit up the German Second Division this season, and continues to impress since making his first-team breakthrough with Stuttgart.
He has contributed three goals and four assists in all competitions, and has become a key member of the first-team squad.
But Ozcan’s agent, Baris Yukselsen has revealed to football.london that his form has caught the eye of several high profile sides, including Arsenal.
He said: “Many top clubs are interested in Berkay. Arsenal has Berkay on its list, but at the moment he is focusing on Stuttgart’s resurgence.”
The Turkey U21 international could be one of a host of new arrivals at the Emirates in the summer, with Arsenal expected to undergo a major overhaul of the first-team squad.
Arsenal could begin the 2017-18 campaign under new leadership, with Arsene Wenger out of contract at the end of the season, while star player Alexis Sanchez, meanwhile, could quit the club.
It had earlier been revealed by Arsenal scout Jurgen Kost that he was monitoring the talents of a young Turkish midfielder in Germany, and that the club were weighing up a potential move.
He did not, however, disclose the name of the player on their radar; but he could have been referring to Ozcan.
The emerging midfield talent is rated highly by his current employers, and signed a new four-year deal with the club at the start of the season.
Football Insider verdict
Arsenal will have their sights set on rebuilding for the future ahead of a potential finale to a Premier League campaign that could see them finish outside the top four and without Champions League football. But regardless of their league finish, a big rebuilding job at the club is required. However, while Arsenal have a keen eye for Europe’s emerging talent, the immediate priority should be snapping up already-proven talent that can help them re-establish themselves among the elite. Ozcan may well be a fantastic future asset, but the Gunners should be setting the bar much higher than the Stuttgart man at this stage.
