Alan Hutton claims that Aston Villa midfielder John McGinn will lift the spirits of everyone at the training ground after his impressive performance for Scotland on Tuesday evening.
The former Villa and Scotland defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, says that his fellow countryman has an infectious attitude and that his positivity from the international break will return with him to training.
McGinn scored his sixth and seventh international goals against Kazakhstan to help his country to a 3-1 win at Hampden Park, all seven of his international strikes coming in the last six games.
Having worked alongside the midfielder at Villa last season, Hutton says that his enthusiasm and positivity from his international exploits will only lift spirits in training ahead of the return to domestic action.
Asked if McGinn’s form would be a boost behind the scenes, Hutton told Football Insider: “Absolutely. It’s infectious, he’s infectious. He’s such a good character and good guy to be around, very happy.
“When things weren’t going too well at the start of the Scotland campaign, you could tell he was coming back and he was down about it, especially under Alex McLeish at the very start of it, it was a difficult moment.
“As a player you have ups and downs, especially during your international career, playing for a smaller nation, should we say. I think them winning three games on the bounce, that’s what we needed for a nation to look forward to March.”
McGinn has played every single minute of Villa’s Premier League campaign this season, having played a crucial role in the side which secured promotion via the Championship play-offs last term.
He has a total of 58 appearances under his belt for Dean Smith’s men, scoring 10 goals.
