Tottenham are unlikely to land a deal to sign Man United star Alejandro Garnacho this month, sources have told Football Insider.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider's Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O'Rourke revealed that it would take a "huge sum" for United to consider selling him to a Premier League and direct rival for league positions.

Instead, the 20-year-old is more likely to move abroad as Ruben Amorim's side may be forced to sell to ease growing financial concerns at Old Trafford.

The Red Devils are thought to be on the edge of breaching the Premier League's profit and sustainability rules, and could be forced to sell players in an attempt to balance the books.

While Kobbie Mainoo has been heavily linked with a move to Chelsea, there is a feeling that Garnacho could be the player sacrificed in favour of pure profit.

However, Tottenham's interest will likely be dismissed by United, who would be in favour of a move to Italian giants Napoli who have been keeping an eye on his situation.

Questions have been asked about Garnacho's place in Amorim’s plans as he has been left out of the starting XI in four of their last five league games.

The winger was dramatically excluded from the squad alongside Marcus Rashford as United beat Man City 2-1 at the Etihad in December, with the boss demanding to see more in training.

Since then, though, he has come back into the squad and provided a valuable option off the bench or in the starting XI with his pace and direct play.

Despite this, he is being heavily linked with a big-money move away from Old Trafford and United are now willing to entertain talks over his exit.

Tottenham, meanwhile, have been plotting a move to sign a new winger since the summer but have so-far failed in their attempts to bolster Ange Postecoglou's attacking options.
