Ex-manager moots 'incredible' Newcastle return for Rose after confirmed news
Alex McLeish has suggested Danny Rose could return to Newcastle United when he leaves Tottenham this summer.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Scotland boss admitted the 30-year-old would be an “incredible” signing on a free transfer.
Tottenham confirmed Rose is set to leave north London upon the expiry of his contract this summer.
He has not featured for the Lilywhites since January 2020.
The England international spent the second half of the 2019-20 season on loan at Newcastle.
McLeish admitted there were some doubts about the defender’s passion for football.

However, he suggested Newcastle fans would be happy to see him back at St James’ Park.
McLeish told Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge: “Rose is a great player. In fact, Newcastle fans actually would love Danny Rose to go back.
“With Danny, it’s like does he love football?
“He spoke about: ‘I’ll just walk away and retire then,’ last year when he was maybe in the huff a wee bit.
“But what a good player Newcastle would get on a free transfer. Incredible.”
Rose fell out of favour under José Mourinho and failed to make a single appearance for the North Londoners during the 2020-21 campaign.
He is set to leave after making 214 appearances for the Lilywhites.
The defender joined Newcastle on loan in January 2020 and proceeded to play 11 times for the Magpies.
Speaking back in 2019, Rose admitted he “can’t wait” to hang up his boots after suffering racial abuse.
