Alexander Isak is still being seen as a key man at Newcastle regardless of his contract talks stalling, sources have told Football Insider.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that talks are expected to reopen “closer to the end of the season.”

Both parties have decided to put contract discussions on the back burner for the moment so that the 25-year-old striker can concentrate on his form and fitness, but the Magpies do intend on picking them back up.

Football Insider revealed that the club are not concerned about his contract situation due to the fact his current deal doesn’t expire until 2028.

Newcastle are “quite confident” that they will be able to keep him on a long-term basis despite the fact numerous clubs are monitoring his situation.

Isak scored his third goal of the season during their midweek win against Chelsea in the Carabao Cup.

The Magpies recently signed teenage sensation Vakhtang Salia, although the young striker will not be officially joining the club until he turns 18 next August.

However, well-placed sources told Football Insider to not read into anything regarding that signing impacting Isak’s future at St. James’ Park.

The Premier League giants are simply trying to sign some of the best young talent in Europe to try and improve the team going forward for years to come.

Isak is still being seen as a crucial figure in Eddie Howe’s team, with the Sweden international having featured in every game this season when he’s been fit.

The 25-year-old has scored 38 goals and provided six assists in 76 appearances for the Magpies since he joined the club in 2022.
