Alexandre Lacazette could be frozen out at Arsenal after 'brilliant' development - pundit

Eddie Nketiah can displace Alexandre Lacazette to become first choice at Arsenal by ramping up his training performances, according to Danny Mills.

The former England defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, hailed the 22-year-old’s “brilliant” ability in front of goal.

As quoted by the Evening Standard (23 April), manager Mikel Arteta hailed the “phenomenal” striker, and insisted “things can turn very quickly” if Nketiah can maintain his recent form.

The report claims the England Under-21 international has rejected new terms at the Emirates Stadium – with his current deal set to expire in June.

Nketiah scored twice on just his second start of the season to help Arsenal to a 4-2 win over Chelsea on Wednesday (20 April) – and played a key role as the Gunners beat Man United 3-1 on Saturday (23 April).

Mills urged the forward to work harder off the pitch in order to get the game time he is demanding.

“We’ve seen that he can score goals,” he told Football Insider‘s Connor Whitley.

“But there’s obviously a reason why he doesn’t get a lot of game time. He came to Leeds and didn’t get much, and he’s had a couple of managers at Arsenal too.

“You have to ask the question of his performances in training – is he really doing all that he can?

“If you give him the opportunity, he can be brilliant in front of goal. That’s not hard to see.

“I think he just needs to knuckle down in training now, work a little bit harder – and look at his weaknesses.

“He can make the shirt his own if he can do exactly what the manager wants of him.”
