Alfredo Morelos: Rangers tipped to make transfer U-turn on one condition after source's update - pundit
Rangers will only be able to keep hold of Alfredo Morelos by winning the Scottish Premiership and qualifying automatically for the Champions League group stages.
That is the view of ex-Premier League and England defender Danny Mills, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the striker’s future.
An Ibrox source told Football Insider on Thursday (7 April) they are braced for bids for the 25-year-old in the upcoming transfer window.
This summer represents the last chance to secure a major fee for Morelos with his contract set to expire in the summer of 2023 and they want to secure a fee of at least £13million.
There is a real possibility he has played his last game for the Light Blues after they confirmed last Tuesday (5 April) he will miss the rest of the season after undergoing surgery on a thigh injury.
“It will depend on where Rangers finish in the league, what happens in the Europa League and what that means for their finances,” Mills told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“Then what happens with Giovanni van Bronckhorst going forwards. There is a lot in the mix at Rangers and it depends on these next few weeks, effectively.
“If they finish behind Celtic, how far will they finish behind Celtic? Can they turn it around in the Europa League?
“What is the plan going forward? Do they need to sell a player like that to get some money to help bring players in?
“If they were to overtake Celtic and win the league, get in the Champions League with all that money they might be able to keep him and he will want to play in the Champions League.
“If not, they might need to reassess the situation.”
