Paul Robinson has claimed Anthony Gordon's arrival will force Allan Saint-Maximin out the exit door at Newcastle United.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs and England number one suggested Gordon, 21, has been "signed to replace" Saint-Maximin, 25.

The Magpies confirmed the capture of Gordon from Everton in a £45million deal on 29 January.

The Englishman will compete with Miguel Almiron, Jacob Murphy, Ryan Fraser Alexander Isak and Saint-Maximin for the wide positions in Eddie Howe's side.

According to Sky Sports (26 January), AC Milan were interested in signing Saint-Maximin in January.

However, a move failed to materialise prior to Tuesday night's transfer deadline.

Robinson believes the French winger will exit in the summer though.

"I would say I would be surprised if they let him go but there is a reason why they have brought Gordon in though," he told Football Insider.

"They pushed hard and got it through. They wouldn't have spent all that money on him unless they thought he was going to be a regular in the first team.

"I think Saint-Maximin will be looking elsewhere. It is a shame because when he's on the top of his game, he is amazing. He is a better player than Gordon in my opinion.

"Gordon has been signed to replace Saint-Maximin. He has not been signed to play alongside him. I think that is a move that we will see happen in the summer."
