Alan Hutton has suggested that Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers is looking to sign Celtic midfielder Callum McGregor after his incredibly consistent performances in the middle of the park.
The former Scotland defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, says that the 26-year-old rarely puts in anything less than an 8 out of 10 performance for the Hoops despite the vast number of games he has played in recent years.
McGregor actually played more minutes of competitive football than any other player in world football during the 2018/19 campaign, with only two players turning out in more than the 69 games he featured in for both club and country.
With Neil Lennon having confirmed that the club were looking to hand the Scottish international a new deal, Hutton says he can see why the Hoops are so desperate to tie him down for the foreseeable future.
Hutton told Football Insider: “He’s brilliant, he’s just like the Energizer bunny, he just keeps going and going. He’s played so many games at such a young age.
“I know they’re trying to tie him down to a new deal and it doesn’t surprise me. I’m pretty sure the likes of Brendan Rodgers, people like this who know him know how good he is and I’m not surprised these kind of teams are looking at him.
“He’s got so much to offer, a young player who’s probably not even hit his peak yet. He’s always consistent, always an 8 out of 10 or higher.”
McGregor has continued to be a mainstay for the Hoops this season, playing 20 times already across all competitions, with four goals under his belt.
He has a total of 244 Celtic appearances to his name, as well as a further 17 caps for Scotland.
In other Celtic news, Hutton has been left raving over one Hoops star who is “out of the ordinary.”
