Alan Hutton says that selling Alfredo Morelos for £15million could be “amazing” for Rangers as the striker is eyed up by Aston Villa.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, the former Gers ace and boyhood Bear says that while it would be disappointing to see the Colombian hitman depart Ibrox any time soon, having Jermain Defoe to take his place would help soften the blow.
As revealed by Football Insider, the 23-year-old has had a valuation of around £15million-plus slapped on his head by the club as Premier League side Villa weigh up a potential move to bolster their front line.
Hutton says that the Light Blues’ asking price should not be too much trouble for Villa if they want him and that the eight-figure fee would be a massive windfall for the Gers should they sell up.
Asked about Rangers’ £15million valuation, Hutton told Football Insider: “I don’t think that would be a stumbling block for Villa, they’ve obviously went a lot higher than that for other players, even defenders, I can’t see that being a problem.
“That’s amazing money for Rangers, that’s a huge fee for obviously a team in Scotland. They’ve got somebody like Defoe waiting, he’s been banging, scoring goals.
“The thing is you may be annoyed at one of your top strikers go but you’ve already got someone there, plus you’ve then got money to invest into the squad. It could work out good for all sides.”
Morelos hit 30 goals for Steven Gerrard’s side across all competitions last season, contributing a further 11 assists, and he has carried his form into the current campaign with 14 strikes in 18 appearances.
His disciplinary record has come under fire during his time in Scotland, with a number of incidents seeing him suspended, but he has not yet picked up as much as a yellow card in the Premiership this season.
