Pundit backs 'brilliant' Gray signing after Romano's 'very exciting' Everton update
Alan Hutton has insisted Demarai Gray could be a “very exciting” signing for Everton despite his indifferent form at Bayer Leverkusen.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Scotland international suggested Gray could rediscover his magic touch for the Toffees.
As reported by reputable Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano today (July 21st) Gray has completed a medical ahead of a £1.7million (€2million) move.
It is said he will pen a three-year contract, with the option to extend his terms until 2024.
Gray joined Leverkusen on a one-and-a-half-year deal back in January but struggled for form in Germany.
Despite being unable to produce performances to excite fans in recent times, Hutton believes he will be a smart signing for Everton.

“I always liked him, going right back to when he was at Birmingham,” Hutton told Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge.
“He got the big move which didn’t work but he’s still quite young.
“We know what he’s capable of and £1.5 million is a brilliant price. He can still develop, he can still get better under the guidance of a good manager which Benitez is.
“I think that (signing) is an absolute no-brainer. I know it’s gone a bit stale for him recently but everything could change in a heartbeat. He’s got the potential to be a very exciting player.
“It’s just about getting that confidence back and I think he’ll get that by playing games.”
Gray has made 133 Premier League appearances and picked a Premier League winners’ medal.
Rafa Benitez has also signed Asmir Begovic and Andros Townsend in recent days.
