Analysis: Three Leeds players who could continue promotion hopes and demolish Preston

COMMENT by Amir Mir

Leeds travel to Deepdale to take on former boss Simon Grayson and his Preston North End side on Boxing Day.

The away team are currently sitting in a play-off spot and will be hoping to continue their winning run over the festive period.

Here, Football Insider analyses the three Whites players who could be key to continuing their promotion hopes and demolishing Preston.

Pontus Jansson

A firm fan favourite, the hard-hitting centre-back has been an integral figure in Leeds’ rise to promotion form this season.

The on-loan Torino player has not been shy to showcase his strength at the back and those qualities will be needed once again on Monday.

Jansson will come up against a Preston side that has scored 30 goals in 22 Championship games, including six during their last three matches. Therefore, the Swede will need to be on form to help his side keep a valuable clean sheet.

Chris Wood

The 25-year-old has scored 11 goals in 21 league games for his side this season but missed the win over Brentford last time out because of injury.

Garry Monk will be hoping his star striker can be fit for the festive clash, as he is the focal point of a very dangerous Leeds team.

Every time he has found the back of the net this term, the Yorkshire club have gone on to pick up at least a point and Wood will be hoping to continue that run on Boxing Day.

Hadi Sacko

The pacy winger will be another crucial player to Monk’s side picking up three points at Deepdale.

Sacko possesses the pace, skill and power to hurt opposition defences, in particular away from home.

The Frenchman will once again need to produce another top performance as his qualities during counter attacks could prove to be the difference in the game.

In other Leeds team news, this Whites enforcer should be handed a start against Preston.
