Andy Robertson will make a Liverpool transfer decision and be master of his own destiny after talks opened over a potential contract extension.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider's Inside Track podcast, former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson, who remains well-connected within the game, explained that the 30-year-old is considering the best option for his future.

Robinson went on to explain that the Scotland international's relationship with his manager will play a huge part, while he must consider whether he is happy with his role in the team.

So far this season, he has made 14 appearances across all competitions, but has completed a full 90 minutes just four times as the boss has opted to rotate his squad.

However, sources say Robertson is a player the club do not want to lose amid speculation over the future of key players Virgil van Dijk, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Mohamed Salah.

As speculation rages on about the futures of the star men with less than a year remaining on their deals, Liverpool have also turned their attention to extending the left-back's contract.

Now, Robertson has explained that the final decision will come down to the player and whether he is happy to play a lesser role going forward.

"It'll be down to him and what he's happy to do," he told Football Insider.

"It's about whether he wants to play every week or if he's happy being rotated in and out of the side like he has been so far this season.

"For the first time in a long time, he's not been the first choice.

"Tsimikas has played quite often and the manager hasn't been scared to rotate his full-backs.

"So that's something that will come into consideration.

"It also raises questions about the futures of Trent, Van Dijk and Salah who we haven't heard many updates on, when they're prioritising deals for Robertson and Konate for example.

"The situation will come down to Robertson's relationship with the manager and what he wants for himself and his career going forward."
