Liverpool will find a move for Anthony Gordon a lot harder once he signs a fresh deal at Newcastle United, sources have told Football Insider.

The 23-year-old is close to penning a contract extension at St James’ Park after reaching a verbal agreement over the terms of the deal.

Eddie Howe's side have reacted to summer interest in the winger from Liverpool, which was rebuffed despite concerns over a potential breach of Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR).

Sources say the Reds are "huge admirers" of the England international - but they will find it hard to do a deal in the near future once Gordon commits to Newcastle.

Newcastle move to end Liverpool interest in Gordon

He has landed a huge pay hike and will join the likes of Kieran Trippier and Bruno Guimaraes in the top bracket of earners, receiving upwards of £140,000 per week.

Gordon is being rewarded for his stellar form in the 2023-24 campaign, during which he notched 12 goals and 11 assists in 48 games across all competitions.

The winger, who has scored twice in the new season, has less than two years to run on his existing deal at St James' Park.
