Arne Slot faces FA investigation after Liverpool defeat vs Manchester United

Arne Slot could be investigated by the FA for his comments on VAR after Liverpool were beaten 3-2 by Man United on Sunday.

Slot fumed at the officials after he felt his side were on the wrong end of a huge decision that saw Benjamin Sesko’s 14th-minute strike allowed to stand.

The Red Devils’ striker seemed to brush the ball with his fingers before forcing it into an empty net to give his side an early 2-0 lead, but VAR still allowed the goal to stand.

It was that particular decision that saw Slot launch an impassioned rant about the way he feels his side has been officiated this season in his post-match press conference.

Slot could be in trouble for the comments, and may not be on the sidelines for Liverpool’s next match against Chelsea next weekend.

What did Arne Slot say about VAR after Benjamin Sesko controvery?

Slot insisted last month that “so many decisions” involving VAR had gone against his side this season after a penalty that was given for a foul on Alexis Mac Allister was overturned in their Champions League clash against PSG.

Keith Hackett told Football Insider that Mac Allister had tried to deceive the referee, and he could have no complaints about that particular call.

Liverpool are level with Brighton for the most VAR penalties conceded in the Premier League this season, with three so far.

Slot fumed once more on Sunday at the decision to award Sesko’s goal, saying: “If it was a touch, which I think it is, because if you know a bit about a ball sport, you know that if a ball has a certain curve and the curve changes, there must have been contact – but it’s always light.

“Then we should have a debate in football, is that then enough to disallow a goal? But I think the rule is if there was a touch it should have been disallowed.

“But I don’t think it’s a surprise to anyone this season that if there is a VAR intervention, or if there is something that you could look at or could be left, could be right, then that decision goes against us. That has been the whole season.

“Every single time (it’s) the same. If I remember Paris Saint-Germain at home, getting a penalty for a soft touch on (Alexis) Mac Allister, but of course the VAR interferes and says: ‘No, no, this is not a penalty.'”

Hackett makes FA investigation prediction after Slot’s comments

Hackett has admitted that Slot could be in trouble with the FA for calling the integrity of match officials into question.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, he said: “I would be surprised if the FA’s disciplinary department don’t review these comments. I think he’s being very clever because he’s actually global in his statement rather than individual.

“The governing body, the FA, has to protect its match officials from these types of comments.

“I think he centred it probably more on that handball goal, of which I said, upon review, should have been disallowed.”
