Arsenal backed to offer Granit Xhaka new deal after 'big' reveal - pundit
Alan Hutton has claimed Granit Xhaka is “crying out” for a new contract at Arsenal.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Tottenham and Aston Villa defender said Mikel Arteta “trusts” Xhaka to play regularly in the Gunners’ midfield.
Speaking to the Evening Standard (10 August), Xhaka, 29, said it is a “shame” that he only has two years left on his contract at the Emirates.
The Switzerland international added that he sees a “big” future for Arsenal.
Xhaka’s current contract expires in 2024 but includes an option of a year extension.
When asked by Football Insider for his assessment of Xhaka’s future, Hutton said: “Talk about crying out for a new deal.

“He’s been through some ups and downs at that club, it’s been well documented. We’ve seen it all but he’s showed great character to come back. It must have been really difficult for him.
“So he obviously loves the club, the fans are back onside and Arteta obviously trusts him because he plays. He plays regularly so he’s a main part of that midfield.
“He’s a battler and you need players like that. I think he’s capable of losing his head one or two many times but he’s committed to the club.
“I think that’s somebody that’s looking for a long term deal to tie him down and he’s letting the club know he’s willing to listen if they’re going to offer him one.“
Xhaka played 90 minutes in Arsenal’s opening Premier League game last Friday (5 August).
He helped the Gunners secure a 2-0 victory over Crystal Palace.
