Arsenal backed to sign next Jordan Henderson after £45m Sky reveal - Campbell

Kevin Campbell has backed Arsenal signing Sander Berge from Sheffield United this summer.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Gunners and Everton striker suggested the 23-year-old could have a similar impact at the Emirates to that of Jordan Henderson at Liverpool.

Sky Sports claim Arsenal and Everton are considering bids for the centre-midfielder in the next transfer window.

Sheffield United’s relegation from the Premier League has seen Berge’s release clause drop from £45million to £35million.

The Norway international has been limited to 16 appearances this season, having spent four months sidelined with a hamstring injury.

When asked by Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs if he would welcome the signing of Berge, Campbell said: “Anybody who can come into that midfield and add some bite is welcome.

“Berge is a good player but he is a great worker. For me, if he is willing to give 100 per cent for that shirt I would take him because the names on the back of the shirt against Villarreal were not enough.

“Arteta needs players that are going to work. Players who are going to graft for the team.

“He may be the type of player who goes unsung but in the scheme of things every team needs players like that.

“Look at Liverpool, Jordan Henderson and Georginio Wijnaldum do not get enough credit for the work they do but when they are not there you notice it.

“Berge could be like Henderson, and be that type of player for Arsenal.”
