Medical insider: Mikel Arteta 'worried' about Martin Odegaard amid 'out-of-control Arsenal news

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta will be “worried” about Martin Odegaard while he is away on international duty given his recent injury issues.

That is the view of medical expert Ben Dinnery, who runs the Premier Injuries site and has a background in injury and data analysis.

Odegaard, 23, has been one of the Gunners’ star performers this term but missed the 3-0 victory over Bournemouth last Sunday (18 September).

The playmaker has been struggling with a calf injury and, although he returned trained before the clash, was not adjudged to be ready by Arteta.

He was, however, called up for Norway’s upcoming Nations League double-header.

As quoted by the Evening Standard on Tuesday (19 September), Norway boss Stale Solbakken said Odegaard was “not doing well” but could still play in the coming days.

Arteta will likely be concerned that Solbakken will field the player before he is 100 per cent ready, claims Dinnery.

“Every manager is worried when he sees his players go off on international duty,” he told Football Insider’s Adam Williams.

“They will hope the players are managed correctly and that they come back fit and healthy.

“Arteta’s focus is purely going to be on Arsenal. If Odegaard can get some minutes and come through those matches unscathed, great. That will be a benefit in terms of a little bit of sharpness.

“But it’s not in his control, so he will be a little worried because their objectives are different.

“As an international manager, if you’re not getting results, you’re going to be judged on that. Odegaard is one of the best players in that team, so you will want him to be a part of it. So, yes, it’s always a concern.”
