Arsenal in talks with PL rivals over sale of Sanchez - report

By Abigail Withey

Arsenal are preparing to receive a last minute bid from Premier League rivals Manchester City for star winger Alexis Sanchez, according to a recent report.

The Mirror has revealed that City are readying a mouth-watering offer to secure the 28-year-old as deadline day looms.

The newspaper claims on their website that Sanchez is still right at the top of Pep Guardiola’s transfer target list, but it could take a staggering £70 million offer to bring the Chile international to the Etihad.

It is understood that Guardiola’s side are yet to make a formal offer for the Gunners star despite talks taking place over a deal.

Sanchez’ future with the north London club has been a huge talking point over the summer transfer window as he is yet to extend his contract with under 12 months remaining of his current deal.

The Arsenal boss has just revealed that the Chilean is available for Sunday’s match against Liverpool after failing to make an appearance in any of the Gunners’ games of the new season because of an abdominal injury.

Football Insider verdict

Arsene Wenger seems to have firmly stood his ground with any Sanchez interest that’s come his way throughout the summer, and he will probably continue to do so. While the Arsenal boss is reluctant to let him go for any less that £70 million, it’s likely that City will fork out the large sum. Pep Guardiola’s side has spent big over the summer months which has taken their fee total to over £215 million. With the Manchester side already well over the £200 million mark, it’s unlikely that £70 million is out of reach, especially as Sanchez is top of their transfer shopping list. While this looks like good news for City, Arsenal must look to securing a last minute replacement within the final week of the transfer window.
