Arsenal could seal deal for Nicolas Pepe upgrade after source's £60m reveal - Campbell

Kevin Campbell has claimed Arsenal could sign an upgrade on Nicolas Pepe in Bayer Leverkusen winger Moussa Diaby.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Gunners and Everton striker suggested Diaby, 23, has the defensive capabilities Pepe, 27, lacks.

Sources told this site (6 August) that Arsenal are working on a late-window deal for Diaby to “complete” their attack.

Bayer Leverkusen are understood to value their winger in the region of £60million.

The France international could become Arsenal’s sixth signing of the summer window following the arrivals of Gabriel Jesus, Oleksandr Zinchenko, Fabio Vieira, Marquinhos and Matt Turner.

When asked by Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs if Diaby would be an upgrade on the potentially departing Pepe at the Emirates, Campbell said: “You could say that.

“You never really know until they come in though.

“One thing we have do know is that Moussa Diaby is very direct and very skilful. He is a real creator. He can go both way, inside and outside.

“It looks like he tracks back and does the dirty work as well. That is what can be levelled at Pepe. He is good going forward but the other side of his game is lacking intensity.

“Diaby is a good player but you never really know until they come in. He has been coveted by a few clubs. [Mikel] Arteta and Edu do their homework.”

In other news, Kieran Maguire has claimed Arsenal could exploit a ‘massive’ untapped market as a ‘critical’ new deal is announced.
