Arsenal could sign 'marquee' ally for Eddie Nketiah after journalist's update - Campbell

Arsenal plan to make Gabriel Jesus their “first-choice” striker, according to Kevin Campbell.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Gunners and Everton star claimed it will be a new arrival, as opposed to Eddie Nketiah, leading the line for Mikel Arteta’s side next season.

Jesus has just over 12 months remaining on his contract at the Emirates.

According to Goal‘s Charles Watts (20 June), the Brazil international’s representatives are travelling to England in a bid to push through a move to Arsenal.

Eddie Nketiah is currently the only senior striker at the Emirates.

The 23-year-old put pen to paper on a new long-term contract over the weekend.

Campbell is adamant Nketiah has signed his new deal in the knowledge that another striker is inbound at the Emirates this summer.

“I think Eddie Nketiah will be in and around the starting XI but Jesus will be first choice if they sign him,” he told Football Insider.

“The club are clearly looking to make a marquee signing and Jesus would be the one.

“At the back end of the season, Eddie did okay. He looked lively and he got a few goals.

“But he will have signed his contract in the knowledge that there is going to be more bodies coming in.

“That means he is happy to rotate which is fine. He will not be the main man though, that’s for sure.”
