Arsenal plan £15m swoop for international defender – report
By Alex Taylor
Arsenal are planning a £15million swoop for former Manchester United defender Jonny Evans, according to a report.
The Mirror claim that Arsene Wenger will move for the now West Brom centre-back in the current transfer window as he seeks to find cover for the injured Per Mertesacker this summer.
The report says that the Gunners boss has picked out the Northern Ireland international as the top-quality replacement he needs to help the north London outfit compete for silverware next season.
The 28-year-old Premier League winner still has three years remaining on his current deal at the Hawthorns but could be tempted by a return to a top-four club.
Evans developed himself into an integral player for the Baggies last season, featuring in 34 games in all competitions, scoring two goals and providing one assist.

He signed for West Brom for £8million last year but his impressive performances have seen the club almost double his valuation.
The defender also has an impressive disciplinary record, receiving no red cards and just four yellow cards in the whole of the 2015/16 Premier League campaign.
If the move were to go through it would represent Arsenal’s second defensive signing in the close-season, having already secured the signature of Rob Holding from Bolton.
In other Arsenal transfer news, Wenger has revealed that he was surprised by new £2million signing Rob Holding after he made his debut against the MLS All Stars.
