Arsenal go head to head with Man City to sign La Liga 21-year-old - report
By Matt Bullin
Arsenal are interested in signing Valencia left-back Jose Luis Gaya, according to a report.
The Sun claim that Arsene Wenger will go head-to-head with Man City in a race to sign the 21-year-old, in a bid to freshen up his back line.
Gaya has a contract tying him to the Mestalla until 2020, so he is not a cheap option, but according to the report Wenger and Pep Guardiola see him as the perfect player to provide competition for their ageing full-backs.
Arsenal’s current left-back options are Nacho Monreal, who is 31-years-old, and Kieran Gibbs who has been a bit-part player this term, and has only featured 19 times in all competitions.
Meanwhile Man City’s full-back options are plentiful, as they have Bacary Sagna, Gael Clichy, Aleksandar Kolarov and Pablo Zabaleta to choose from, but all of them are all on the wrong side of 30.

Gaya, a 12-time Spain Under-21 international, has made 24 La Liga appearances this term, providing two assists.
Football Insider verdict
Gaya has been one player who has flourished despite Valencia’s disappointing campaign. The 21-year-old could be a perfect fit for Arsenal, as he would likely be starting choice left-back, but he would have Monreal there to help him settle in if needed. The Gunners need signings as a signal of intent this summer, and a young left-back is the start, but they need some marquee players if Wenger is to win over his fans. However this is no sure deal, and with the deep pockets of Man City also sniffing around, Wenger will have to move quickly to secure his man.
