Kieran Maguire makes 'massive' Arsenal boardroom claim amid official reveal

The Arsenal board are unlikely to hand over any real power to the supporters any time soon – and rightly so.

That is according to finance guru Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively to Football Insider after the Gunners signed a deal with Socios on 19th July.

The cryptocurrency provider will create a new Arsenal token that will allow supporters to influence club matters.

Gunners commercial director Peter Silverstone said the token will provide “opportunities to interact with the club and be a part of [the] global family.”

Unlike the likes of Chelsea and Liverpool, Arsenal have not moved towards supporter representation at board level in the post-Super League era.

But Maguire squashed any hopes that this could be an early sign of a slow move towards a more democratic model of club governance.

“Cryptocurrencies are still very much a minority sport,” he told Football Insider correspondent Adam Williams.

“We are talking about a very small proportion of the Arsenal fanbase who will sign up for this.

“So I don’t think you’ll have a representative sample size if decisions are being made.

“The decisions will be along the lines of deciding the name of the new mascot or the colour of the new third kit.

“The significant decisions in terms of setting budgets, the culture of the club, the responsibilities of senior management, all of those decisions will continue to be made at board level.

“And that’s rightly so, because they should be made by people with massive experience of being in the industry.
