Arsenal fans react on Twitter to Xhaka display against Bournemouth
By Amir Mir
Granit Xhaka gave away a penalty as Arsenal came from 3-0 down to draw 3-3 against Bournemouth on Tuesday evening – and fans on Twitter have slated the midfielder.
Eddie Howe’s side took the lead early on when Charlie Daniels opened the scoring before Xhaka fouled Ryan Fraser in the box with Callum Wilson slotting away the penalty after 20 minutes.
The home team continued their dominance after the break when Fraser was in the thick of the action once again, this time adding a third from a tight angle.
The away side then fought back with 20 minutes left on the clock with Alexis Sanchez and Lucas Perez getting on the scoresheet.
Howe’s side were then reduced to ten men when Simon Francis was shown a red card as Olivier Giroud scored the equaliser in stoppage time.
Fans on social media were unimpressed with Xhaka’s display as they slammed his performance away from home.
The Switzerland international moved to the Emirates Stadium for a fee of £30 million in the summer, but supporters believe he is not justifying the price tag.
During his 24 games in all competitions this season, he has scored three goals and been sent off on one occasion.
Fans were pointing towards the mistake he made for the second goal as they feel he is constantly put the team at risk.
Here is a selection of their messages on Twitter:
Who put Xhaka in charge of taking corners??? Horrible #AFC

Bellerin usually so good defending 1v1, gets sold so easily. Xhaka too clumsy with that challenge- player was going nowhere. #afc

Xhaka for me has done absolutely nothing to justify his price tag since arriving. He's been shocking imo #afc

I've stood up for Xhaka before but he seems to make at least one of these mistakes every game. It's simply unacceptable. #afc

Lazy defending from Xhaka for the second goal… #afc @Arsenal

Frazer & Daniels have looked liked world beaters tonight courtesy of Mr Bellerin and Xhaka. Why are Arsenal toothless in final third? #afc

Two poor goals. None existent marking on the first and a disgraceful foul by Xhaka for the second. Typical Arsenal #AFC

Folks, this is a real, long-term worry: #Xhaka is a sub-par defender, all over the field, in every situation. And lazy at that. #AFC

As a result of that draw, the Gunners remain in fourth place in the Premier League table on 41 points from 20 games – eight off leaders Chelsea who player fifth-placed Tottenham on Wednesday.
A win for Spurs will see them leapfrog their north London rivals in the table or three points for Antonio Conte’s side could see them open up an 11 point lead on Wenger’s team.
In other Arsenal news, Steve Claridge had panned this Gunner trio after the Bournemouth game.
