Kieran Maguire delivers Arsenal takeover verdict as 'huge' £700m Kroenke case looms

Daniel Ek should not get too excited about Stan Kroenke’s upcoming legal battle – it is unlikely to affect his ownership of Arsenal.

So says finance expert Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the latest development in Ek’s takeover aspirations.

The Sun reported on 30th July that Ek has told friends that Kroenke’s impending case versus the city of St. Louis has boosted his takeover hopes.

Kroenke is being sued for relocating his NFL side the Rams to Los Angeles from St. Louis and the case could, in theory, cost as much as £700million.

Ek submitted two bids for Arsenal earlier this year but both were rejected out of hand by Kroenke.

And the Swede is claimed to believe the financier’s legal troubles could leave him in a position where he is forced to accept a takeover proposal.

But Maguire is less optimistic and claims the music streaming mogul should temper his expectations.

“I think it’s wishful thinking from Daniel Ek’s point of view,” he told Football Insider correspondent Adam Williams.

“He appears to be grasping at any positive straws he can get his hands on at the moment.

“There will presumably be some sort of settlement between Kroenke and the city of St. Louis if he is indeed in breach of contract.

“That settlement will be far less than the huge figures quoted because that’s the way American court settlements work.

“So, to be honest, I don’t think Arsenal fans should be getting too excited about this. I don’t think it will have an impact on Kroenke’s ownership.”
