'Immense', 'A gem': Arsenal fans react to display of 21-year-old v Stoke

By Russell Edge

Arsenal fans took to social media to sing the praises of defender Rob Holding after his impressive performance against Stoke on Sunday.

Goals from Olivier Giroud (two), Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez secured a convincing 4-1 away to the Potters and ensured that the Gunners kept alive their fight for a fourth placed finish.

It was the attacking flair of Arsene Wenger’s side which stole the limelight with the North London side returning to their fluid best to dominate an inferior Stoke side.

However, 21-year-old Holding’s performance did not go unnoticed, with fans taking to Twitter to recognise the former Bolton man’s contribution.

Here are a selection of their messages from Twitter:

Holding joined the Gunners from Bolton in the summer of 2016 and went straight into their starting XI, making his debut in the 4-3 defeat to Liverpool on the opening weekend.

However he failed to make a league appearance for Wenger’s side between the end of August and the middle of April, when he returned in his side’s 2-1 victory away at Middlesbrough.

This coincided with a change of tactics from the French manager, as he turned to using a three man defence, and it appears to have worked wonders for both the player and manager.

Holding has made seven appearances in the league for Arsenal this season, although he has started 12 matches on the bench without getting on the pitch.

In other Arsenal news, Football Insider called one man ‘Mr Arsenal’ after his performance at Stoke.
