Arsenal have identified 'perfect signing' to partner Partey after Sky update - pundit

Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum would be the “perfect” partner for Thomas Partey in the Arsenal midfield, according to Kevin Campbell.

The former Gunners striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, said the 31-year-old would be a “great addition” in January given his attributes and Premier League experience.

Wijnaldum joined PSG in the summer after the expiration of his contract at Liverpool.

According Sky Sports (8 December), the Netherlands international is open to a return to the Premier League and Arsenal is a potential destination.

Granit Xhaka, Albert Sami Lokonga and Ainsley Maitland-Niles have all played alongside Partey this season.

When asked by Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs if Wijnaldum would be a significant upgrade on the three, Campbell said: “Yes, I like this a lot.

“I think he’d be the perfect signing for many reasons.

“He went about his business in such a quiet way at Liverpool, I really admired it. He was an unsung hero when you think about it.

“A player who is a work horse, who can press the ball and who knows where the back of the net is. He knows the Premier League and would hit the ground running in January. He’d be a great addition in the midfield.

“I mean, talk about a partner for Thomas Partey! I just think it would be really good business on Arsenal’s part.”

Wijnaldum has been in and out of the PSG side this season.

He has made 21 appearances across all competitions.
