Arsenal idol issues 'incredible' claim after what he's heard from William Saliba - 'it can upset the apple cart'

Kevin Campbell is over the moon to hear William Saliba is happy at Arsenal and is ready to fight for his place.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Gunners and Everton striker said the 21-year-old is “back with a vengeance” after an “incredible” 2021-22 campaign.

Saliba has spent the last three seasons out on loan in France following a £27million move from Saint-Etienne in July 2019.

The centre-half has impressed in pre-season and started Sunday’s 2-0 win over Everton.

As quoted by Goal (17 July), Saliba said “it’s good be be back” when speaking about his return to the Emirates.

He also revealed that he “watched every game” of his parent club when out on loan.

When asked by Football Insider for his assessment of the latest, Campbell said: “He made the decision to join Arsenal young.

“Even the manager has had talks.

“He went on loan again to play regularly. He played as much as he could play and had an incredible season in France.

“Now he is back and is back with a vengeance. He has come to the Premier League to make a mark and make a name for himself. You have to take your hat off to him.

“I kept on saying that he was going to be an Arsenal player from this season. I knew he was going nowhere. Sometimes the media can say things that can get under your skin and upset the apple cart. Some Arsenal fans bit on it.

“Saliba is going nowhere. You can see that he wants to be here.

“The club has a wonderful French connection and he’s the next one. There is going to be no problems if he keeps doing what he is doing.”
