Arsenal idol lauds Arteta for 'brilliant gesture' as footage emerges
Kevin Campbell has lauded Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta for offering Jack Wilshere the chance to return to first team training at the club.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Highbury favourite claimed “it would be great news” if Wilshere, 29, could get back up to speed and find a new club.
Speaking last week, Arteta said “our door is always open” when quizzed on a potential return for Wilshere to training at the club’s London Colney base.
Wilshere responded to his former teammate’s offer by telling Football Daily he was sure he’d “have a conversation with someone at the club over the next couple of days.”
The centre-midfielder is without a club for the first time in his career following his release from Bournemouth at the end of last season.
When asked by Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs for his assessment of the news, Campbell said: “It’s a brilliant gesture from Mikel Arteta.

“Arsenal is somewhere where Jack Wilshere feels comfortable. Hopefully he can train and get back up to speed again because he hasn’t got a club right now.
“If he gets up to speed he will have a really good chance of getting a new club. It’d be great news if he can do that and get his career back on track.
“Definitely get back in there Jack because we all want to see you fit and firing.”
Wilshere joined Arsenal’s academy in 2001 and became their youngest-ever league debutant seven years later aged 16 years and 256 days.
He amassed 198 appearances in total for the Gunners.
