Campbell salutes Arteta after three 'quality' new Arsenal deals agreed

Arsenal have changed tactics in the transfer market and are now targeting “quality” youngsters.

So says ex-Gunners hitman Kevin Campbell, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about Arsenal’s recruitment strategy this summer.

The Londoners have signed 23-year-old Ben White as well as Albert Sambi Lokonga and Nuno Tavares, both 21, for a combined total of over £75million in recent weeks.

According to Campbell, Arteta has been more inclined to choose experience over youth in the transfer market.

The likes of Willian and David Luiz have signed in recent windows and have subsequently failed to impress.

Campbell lauded the manager for mixing things up and claimed it bodes well for the team’s long-term prospects.

He told Football Insider assistant editor Dylan Childs: “They are getting the young, quality players. If they have got experience, even better.

“That’s the key that allows Arteta to start building a team. You get the pieces falling into place, and they are gonna be there for four or five seasons.

“If you’re buying players at 32 or 33, they are only gonna be there for so long. You’re always going to be thinking you’ve got to change things.

“Once you’ve started signing them young enough, then you can start to build. But you do need a balance, definitely.”

Football Insider revealed on 28th July that Arsenal are targetting £75m-rated Inter Milan striker Lautaro Martinez.

The Gunners are offering Hector Bellerin, who they value at £30m, in a part-exchange deal for the Argentinian.

In other news, pundit claims Jose Mourinho may have forced Arsenal into U-turn over player after deal “done and dusted”.
