Arsenal have offered Chelsea the services of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain in a bid to swoop for enforcer Nemanja Matic, according to a reliable journalist.

Sky Italy correspondent Gianluca Di Marzio reported on personal website that Juventus were also keen on the Serbian international, who helped Antonio Conte’s Chelsea side win the Premier League title last season.

It is understood that Arsenal are looking to beat Juve into snapping up the 28-year-old by making a stunning player exchange deal which includes exciting England international Oxlade-Chamberlain, who has entered the final year of his contract in north London.

Italian transfer expert Di Marzio adds that Matic is “on bad terms” with Chelsea at the moment, so could be trying to sound out a move away from Stamford Bridge this summer.

The 31-times Serbia international, who has been in top form for the Blues since rejoining them from Benfica in 2014, made 40 appearances across all competitions last term.

He scored two goals in what was a successful season for Chelsea, with one of them being a thunderbolt of a strike against Tottenham in the FA Cup semi-final.

Football Insider Verdict

Matic would be a brilliant addition for Arsene Wenger, but there’s no doubt that the promise of a pretty much guaranteed league title with Juventus, as well as Champions League football, is going to be a huge deciding factor. Arsenal’s signing of Alexandre Lacazette would take some beating this summer, but the Serb would be a top addition to add some steel to the Gunners midfield. He is a much better option than current midfield enforcer Granit Xhaka. Wenger’s side is strong in attack but is definitely weakest in defence. Matic would do a great deal to help curb that problem and also offer a lot in terms of attacking play with his great range of passing.
