Arsenal are set to submit a third bid for Monaco winger Thomas Lemar as contract talks with Alexis Sanchez have stalled, according to a report.
The Daily Mail claim on their website that the Gunners are to return with a £50million offer for the 21-year-old attacker, as they look to secure a deal for a player his club have insisted is not for sale.
Arsene Wenger’s side are said to have already submitted two previous bids, with reports claiming that offers of £35million and £45million have been made for the starlet.
Arsenal reportedly insist that their pursuit of the five-time-capped France international is not as a replacement for Chilean forward Sancez, but it is claimed that crucial talks between the club and the player’s representatives have broken down.
There is reportedly a £275,000-a-week deal on the table for the 28-year-old with his current contract set to expire next year, which would see him able to leave on a free transfer.
Football Insider verdict
Arsene Wenger seems adamant on capturing Lemar this summer, which seems to signify that he has little faith of tying Sanchez to the club. The pair are similar in style, with both possessing the close control and the pace to terrorise defences. Whether the Monaco man would show the same tenacity and drive as Sanchez has demonstrated during his time at the Emirates Stadium is another matter, but at 21-years-old, Wenger would be sure to drill that into him from day one. The club should be able to demand a fee for Sanchez in a similar range as they are willing to pay for Lemar, and should the French winger sign on the dotted line, then fans will be left with little doubt about the future of their attacking talisman.
In other Arsenal transfer news, the club have held talks with a sporting director over the exit of this midfielder.
