Whelan issues '£250m' Arsenal transfer prediction after Odegaard confession
Arsenal need to spend “£250million in one season” before they get anywhere near a Champions League title.
So says ex-Premier League forward Noel Whelan, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about recent comments made by Martin Odegaard.
As per The Mirror on 10 September, the permanent summer signing admitted his ambition is to win the Champions League “within a couple of years” at Arsenal.
Arsenal have not qualified for the continent’s premier club competition since 2016-17 and missed out on European football entirely last season.
They have won just one of their opening four Premier League matches in the current campaign despite having spent £150m in the summer window.
And Whelan insists that Odegaard’s Champions League dream is aeons away.

“There’s a lot of things they need to get right at Arsenal,” he told Football Insider correspondent Adam Williams.
“They huffed and puffed and got over the line at the weekend. But most teams in the top six will blow Norwich away.
“I love the ambition, but they are four or five years off the Champions League.
“Yes, they are a work in progress and they spent a lot of money this summer but they are a long, long way off those other top teams.
“It doesn’t look like it’s two years off. Man City have strengthened, Man United have strengthened, Tottenham, Liverpool, Chelsea.
“They are still way, way off winning it, if they ever do again. They are going to have to spend close to £250m in one season to get close to everybody else.
“They need to be in the Champions League to draw these players in, so it’s catch-22.”
