Arsenal news: Pundit can't believe Leandro Trossard development after £88.5m confirmed news

Noel Whelan can’t believe Arsenal have signed Leandro Trossard for “almost a quarter” of Mykhaylo Mudryk’s reported transfer fee.

The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, backed the 28-year-old to improve under Mikel Arteta’s management and help the Gunners lift the Premier League this season.

Arsenal announced the signing of Trossard on Friday (20 January), with sources telling this site that the Gunners paid an initial £20million – which will rise to a potential £27million after add-ons.

Meanwhile, former Arsenal target Mudryk joined Chelsea in a deal worth a reported potential fee of £88.5million.

Trossard made his debut with an eight-minute cameo as Arteta’s side strengthened their title credentials with a 3-2 win over Man United on Sunday (22 January).

The Gunners are five points clear of Man City atop the Premier League and are on course to record 100 points this season.

Whelan told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury: “He fits straight into their jigsaw.

“There’s nothing you need to change when you bring him in. He fits into their style of play, and he’s the type of player who can get better in a team like Arsenal.

“He’s shown fantastic form, and you look at that transfer fee – it’s a snip.

“Mudryk has gone to Chelsea for big money, and they’re getting a more Premier League-ready player for almost a quarter of that.

“It’s great business from Arsenal – he can help them win this title.”
