Arsenal to offer 21-year-old new contract - report
By Danny Wright
Arsenal are set to offer defender Rob Holding a new contract, according to a report.
The Mirror claims that Arsene Wenger is looking to secure the long-term future of the 21-year-old after a series of impressive displays towards the end of the season.
Holding was one of the centre-backs that helped the Gunners to a 2-1 FA Cup final victory over Chelsea in May and it is understood that Wenger wants to see him become a vital first-team player in the upcoming campaign.
The Gunners enforcer only moved to the Emirates last summer in a £2.1million switch from Bolton and caused a number of fans to again ask questions of Wenger’s recruitment policy.
However Holding has done well to prove many people wrong and has taken to a change of formation to employ a back three like a duck would to water.

He played 18 times across all competitions for Arsenal this season with the bulk of his appearances coming at the start and the end of the term.
Holding didn’t make a single league appearance between September and early April but completed 90 minutes in all five of the finals fixture, as well as the FA Cup final.
Football Insider Verdict
Holding is definitely one of the stars of the future for Arsenal, and perhaps even the England national team. It’s strange that he didn’t get a call-up to Gareth Southgate’s current squad to take on Scotland in a World Cup qualifier this week, but there’s no doubt that his time will come eventually. Holding wowed fan with his performances towards the end of the season and it’s clear that he deserves a new deal at the Emirates as he put to shame to likes of senior stars such as Laurent Koscielny and Gabriel, who have been below par for most of the year.
In other Arsenal news, Wenger has admitted that he regrets not signing this Manchester United player.
