Arsenal quoted '£30m' to sign Douglas Luiz after source's update on summer bid - pundit

Arsenal would have to pay between £20-30million to sign Douglas Luiz from Aston Villa this summer.

That is the view of former Premier League striker Kevin Phillips, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the possibility of the 23-year-old moving to the Emirates.

The Gunners have held a long-term interest in Douglas Luiz and failed in an attempt to land him in January.

An Arsenal source told Football Insider (11 April) that the club remain keen on the Brazilian, with a bid expected when the window re-opens.

The centre-midfielder is fast approaching the final 12 months of his contract at Villa Park.

When asked by Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs for a valuation of Luiz in light of his contract situation, Phillips said: “It’s a good question.

“How long is a piece of string? You have to be talking £20-30million.

“His contract situation doesn’t put Villa in a great position. But they will still demand a decent amount for him I’m sure.

“He is a quality player. Technically he is very good and he would suit most teams in the Premier League. I think he’d be a good fit at Arsenal the way that they play.

“They will not get him for cheap though, that’s for sure. It will be interesting to see how much the transfer fee is if that one happens.”

Luiz has been a mainstay in Aston Villa’s side this season.

He has contributed one goal and three assists in 28 appearances across all competitions.
